Seaviews on the Isle of Wight

There are many ‘seaviews’ on the Isle of Wight, this video deals with two aspects.  Firstly, ex. ‘SEAVIEW SERVICES’, GDL764, an all Leyland Titan PD2.  She celebrated her 50th Birthday on 7th May 2000, this video was made to mark the occasion.

We see her on her special day running her former route from Ryde to Seaview.  Ex. ‘SOUTHERN VECTIS’ Bristol MW 806 helped out carrying extra passengers and acted as a camera stand for the return trip!  GDL764 is usually on show at the Isle of Wight Bus Museum.

The second aspect of ‘seaviews’ is that of the open top bus operations on the island.  We first look at Route 42, home to the ‘SOUTHERN VECTIS’ Lodekka LD open top fleet.  The 1999 views show them in all cream livery, and video shots this year in their smart apple green and cream guise.  There is spectacular footage of them climbing to the Battery for views of the Needles and the English south coast. Route 44 is next, operating in Sandown and Shanklin.  Here we see the recently converted Bristol VR’s, also painted apple green and cream – and running for the ‘VILLAGE BUS COMPANY’, climbing up from the Esplanade at Shanklin, running through the old village, and at many other points on the route. The 88 service is operated by ‘WESTBROOK TRAVEL’, and is a coastal and inland route.  The vehicles we see running the 2000 season are a pair of mark 2 Bristol VRT’s, one a former ‘UNITED AUTO’, the other from the ‘WESTERN NATIONAL’ group.

We conclude with a montage of shots of the ‘Old Girl’ – CDL899, who celebrated her 60th Birthday in 1999.  So sit back and enjoy the views!
