The Provincial Video
In the first of a series focusing upon PROVINCIAL, we take a look at vehicles of the NBC and PEOPLES PROVINCIAL living their last days in service with ‘FIRST’ or enjoying a new life in Preservation.
We first offer you the privilege of seeing Leyland National SBK 740S revisit her old haunts whilst on a visit from Scotland. Preserved in 2001, this is the first time that she has returned home since withdrawal. Filmed in the Fareham and Gosport area we recreate her final months in service with scenes at Wych Lane, Stubbington and Gosport. The opportunity is also taken to take a ride on board to savour the sound of her clattering engine and recall the NBC’s interior design!
Next we journey into the night on Leyland National 2. A301 KJT as she operates an evening tour around Gosport. The journey starts with preparation against a mood-setting dusk. She later meets preserved sister vehicle A302 KJT which is also filmed in action, before some exclusive night time scenes on the Gosport - Fareham corridor.
To bring us up to date
we next focus upon the current ‘FIRST’ operations with Dennis Darts and
Volvos on former Leyland National routes. Once again the filming
concentrates in the Fareham and Gosport region where we visit Fareham Bus
Station, Gosport and Wych Lane where the unique chance is taken to view
the vehicles from more novel vantage points.
Whilst concentrating
on the modern scene we enjoy some views of the final Bristol VR, LWU 471V
in her last months of service. Filmed in late 2003 we see her in
the Fareham and Gosport area where VR operation was common 10 years ago.
We take a ride on board both upstairs and down to enjoy the sights and
sounds of VR operation.
We follow this up with one of our popular photo galleries reliving memories of the area under NBC control. We also get to see some of the vehicles already featured in their earlier days alongside Bristol REs’, LHs’ and the last remaining Seddons. So if you are a fan of Leyland Nationals and Bristol VRs’ sit back and enjoy ‘70s operations today!
itv would like to thank
Gordon Mills, John Sherwin and Darren Marshall for the use of their vehicles.
