The Dublin Luas

Join independent transport videos as we take you on a ride to experience Dublin's new light rail system, Luas. Inaugurated in 2004, the first of our two trips takes place during October that year, shortly after the opening of the system. We then return to Dublin in 2006 to savour everyday operation. Throughout this programme we travel on both routes, providing excellent driver's eye views and stunning exterior scenes.

The first part of the programme takes us from Connolly Station to Tallaght, taking in various stops and points of interest, such as Red Cow and Heuston Station. Most of the filming is actually done ‘over the driver's shoulder’ to provide you with an excellent perspective of how the Alstom Citadis 301A trams are driven. We then take a trip on the other part of the network – the Green Line from St. Stephen's Green to Sandyford. Travelling along Harcourt Street, we pass the long-closed station and, at Charlemont, join the formation of the former railway line to Shanganagh Junction. Moving swiftly along, we soon arrive at the impressive Dargan Bridge at Dundrum before continuing to the current Luas terminus at Sandyford.

The second part of the video programme records a return visit made by our cameras eighteen months later, in sunny June 2006. Again, we start our ride from Connolly (Amiens Street) on the Red Line, journeying along Abbey Street. We then pause at Heuston (Kingsbridge) to film the trams in front of the impressive larnród Éireann station and also crossing Sean Heuston Bridge. From there we move along to Red Cow via James's. At Red Cow we witness some scenes by the depot and watch as Luas drivers exchange duties.

We then record the Green Line, starting at the Dargan Bridge, Dundrum and head south towards the Sandyford terminus. From there we journey back to the city, stopping at Balally, Charlemont and Harcourt before capturing the trams travelling through the streets to the busy terminus at St. Stephens Green.

So join us now and enjoy a front seat view of Ireland's only light rail system!
