Oxford's Buses
The city of Oxford is noted for its ‘dreaming spires’ and interesting bus fleets. Over the years the erstwhile City of Oxford Motor Services gained a strong following amongst bus enthusiasts with their distinctive livery and well turned out vehicles.
Oxford’s buses still remain as popular today and independent transport videos paid a visit in mid 2010 to capture the action. Our tour starts in Magdalen Street where vehicles from the Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach fleets enter the city. We move to the busy intersection at the top of the High Street to film the action with appearances from local independent operators such as Thames Travel, Motts and Heyfordian. We also see a colourful variety of coach operations in the guise of the ‘Oxford Tube’ and the ‘Espress’. Queen Street is the next location where the Oxford Bus Company’s two heritage liveried Wrights bodied Volvos are filmed in service. We then move across the city to the railway station area to film the action there. Here we see the latest Scania Enviro 400s from the Oxford fleet in both the red and the blue ‘Brooks’ livery alongside the latest offering from Stagecoach in the shape of Enviro 400 hybrids in a smart green version of the corporate livery. We take a further look at the city’s coach operations at Gloucester Green Coach Station before capturing more action at the High Street and on Magdalen Bridge for you to enjoy!
Our second part of this video programme records a visit to the excellent Oxford Bus Museum to experience some City of Oxford vehicles from a bygone era. We jump on board Weymann bodied AEC Regent III L166 (PWL 413) for a circular tour of the locale. Upon our return we are then invited to take a spirited run through the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside on board Park Royal bodied AEC Regent V H956 (956 AJO), enjoying the sights and sound of this superb vehicle. Our final ride is again on L166 to the aerodrome returning on wonderfully restored Park Royal bodied AEC Reliance 756 (756 KFC). A visit to the Oxford Bus Museum is strongly recommended!
