Buses in Devon 2021

The previous DVD programme filmed by the independent transport videos cameras featuring buses in Devon was made in 2019.  We have returned in 2021 to record the contemporary bus scene, which is still dominated by Stagecoach South West, with their buses starting to appear in the latest corporate livery that was introduced at the beginning of 2020 and marks the company’s fortieth anniversary since they began operating buses in the Fife region of Scotland.  Other operators are also filmed for you to enjoy as we take you on a clockwise tour of this picturesque county recording the bus operations as we go.

Starting in Tiverton we travel to Sidmouth, Exeter, Dawlish, Torquay, Paignton, Cockington, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, Bideford and Barnstaple concluding on the North Devon coast at Croyde Bay.  At Tiverton bus station we see buses from the independent Dartline company alongside those of Stagecoach South West.  At Sidmouth we also see buses from AVMT (Axe Vale Mini Travel).  Whilst in Exeter we travel on the Exeter City Tour operated by First South West on open-top 33428 (LK58 KHP), an ADL Enviro400 on loan to Exeter from Penzance!  A good selection of Stagecoach buses are also seen in service in the streets and at the new bus station that has recently opened.  Look out for Stagecoach 19001 (MX06 LUO) painted in the original ‘stripes’ heritage ‘Stagecoach Devon’ livery.  Plenty of action follows in Dawlish with open-top buses as well as a quick look at the railway!  Torquay is also busy with plenty of Stagecoach action as well as the independent operator, Torbay Buses.  The next location for filming is at the busy Paignton bus station with Stagecoach buses in a variety of liveries and buses from Torbay Buses passing by.  A brief visit to the pretty village of Cockington includes a ride on a Torbay Buses Optare Solo.

At Dartmouth filming takes place at the Pontoon, where there is a stranger in the camp in the form of Stagecoach East 13813 (BV18 YAA), a Wright-bodied Volvo in ‘City Sightseeing Cambridge’ livery!  In Kingsbridge it’s the buses from Tallyho! Coaches Limited that are seen in action during the day when our cameraman was filming the popular Kingsbridge Vintage Bus Running Day.  The Quay at Bideford is our next location to enjoy where we see Dennis Dart 35164 (WA56 FKR) also in heritage ‘Stagecoach Devon’ stripes livery.  We continue to the busy bus station at Barnstaple where alongside the Stagecoach buses we see buses from the independents Filers Travel and Taw and Torridge.  At Barnstaple we take some open-top bus rides to enjoy the beautiful Devon coast and countryside.  We ride out to Croyde Bay on service 21c onboard Stagecoach 19106 (MX07 HMF), an ADL Enviro400, now a permanent open-topper.  From here we take the short ride back to Croyde Bridge before joining similar bus, 19105 (MX07 HME) for the ride back on the 21c service to Barnstaple bus station.  Our final scenes are at evening time at Croyde Bay.  We hope you enjoy this Devon visit as much as we did filming it for you.
