On Sunday 4th
September 2022 the Devon General Society put on an excellent Classic Bus
Running Day centred on the East Devon town of Exmouth. A total of seven routes were operated around
the local area including an Open Top Special – Exmouth Town Circular Tour. The independent transport videos cameras
were on hand to record the day for you to enjoy. A total of nine former Devon General buses
and coaches were on hand to operate the services and are seen on this
programme.
Our filming begins at the
start of the day where we see the buses loading their passengers on Imperial
Road in the town centre. We see further
action on Rolle Street and at the Coach Park.
For your enjoyment our cameras take rides on two vehicles, with one
camera in the cab for the driver’s eye view and one in the saloon for the
passenger's experience. Our first ride
is on board DR661 (NTT 661), a 1952 AEC Regent III with Weymann H56R bodywork
on service 5 to Clyst St. George. We
return on this bus to Imperial Road in Exmouth.
Our second ride is on board DR705 (ETT 995) the very rare AEC Regal
‘Light Six’. This unique bus was built
in 1936 as an AEC Regal single-decker and was rebuilt in 1953 with a
‘light-weight’ Saunders-Roe H56R double-deck body. We ride with the driver and as a passenger on
the 59A service to Littleham Village returning to The Royal Avenue in Exmouth. Further filming occurs along Imperial Road
and Parade before we arrive at the Coach Park where we see the buses preparing
to leave after a most enjoyable day.
Our
thanks to the Devon General Society for organising this lovely event and we
hope that you enjoy reliving the day on our DVD programme.
