The main bus operator
in the historic cathedral city of Salisbury in the county of Wiltshire is Go
South Coast, with their buses branded as ‘Salisbury Reds’. Stagecoach (South)
also operates into the city including a joint service with Salisbury Reds to
the nearby town of Andover – the route being branded as Activ8.
This DVD
programme has been filmed at various times from 2020 to 2024 and shows how the
buses have changed during that five-year period. As with our previous DVD programmes featuring
Salisbury Reds and the erstwhile Wilts & Dorset buses in the city we have
used some of the best locations to see the buses in action. City locations include Milford Street, Castle
Street, Blue Boar Row, New Canal, Bridge Street and Endless Street as well as
some shots at the bus depot on Castle Street and at the Central Coach
Park. We begin this programme in the
city centre before boarding ‘Stonehenge’ green-liveried Salisbury Reds 1635
(HF66 CFD), a 2016-built ADL Enviro400MMC double-decker for a visit to the
historic stones of Stonehenge. As you
will see we had the bus to ourselves as this was filmed at the time when some
of the covid-19 pandemic restrictions were lifted. At Stonehenge we see the six Enviro200MMC
gold-liveried single-deckers that operate the 2km route between the stones and
the Heritage Centre. Our cameras take
rides on 2785 (HF67 AUL) and 2789 (HF67 AUP) before riding back to Salisbury on
board 1636 (HF66 CFE) another ADL400MMC in the green livery.
Our 2021 and 2022 visits are filmed mostly
around the city capturing the Salisbury Reds in action along with some of the
Stagecoach buses. During our 2023 visit
to the city we take rides on two of the battery-electric buses to Petersfinger
park & ride. From the city it is on board 903 (HF69 CHO), a BYD D8UR 10.8m
with an ADL Enviro200EV body returning to the city on similar 901 (HF69
CHL). In 2017 Go South Coast brand
‘Morebus’ which covers the Bournemouth and Poole area placed in service seven
ADL400MMC seventy-one coach-seated double-deckers for the frequent X3 service
that runs between Bournemouth and Salisbury.
In a dedicated livery and with high-backed coach seats with tables on
the upper deck these buses have been the mainstay of this busy route. In 2024 they were retired from their busy
life on the X3 to a more restful time on the Isle of Wight and repainted in the
Southern Vectis two-tone green livery.
Their replacements are similar ADL400MMC buses, but with normal bus
seats wearing a similar dedicated X3 livery.
All these buses are operated from Ringwood depot. So to record these buses our cameraman took a
ride on 1650 (HF66 CGE) from Salisbury to Ringwood in October 2023 and then a
ride on board 1654 (HF66 CHG) to Salisbury in early 2024 before returning to
Ringwood filming the ride in the lower saloon.
A further ride to Salisbury is taken on board 1651 (HF66 CGG) where we
catch up with the bus scene and get a chance to see Stagecoach 10700 (YEL 4T - SN66
VVL), an ADL400MMC painted in the deregulated Hampshire Bus livery of red,
white and blue. We return to Ringwood on
board brand new Morebus X3-branded 1789 (HJ24 RCX). We hope you have enjoyed the ride!
