The independent
transport videos studios welcome you to this very special DVD programme
that features some of the highlights of both the ‘Rydabus’ and ‘Wightrider’
events that took place in 2025 as well as featuring a ‘Ryde’ on two classic
double-decker buses! We begin at the ‘Rydabus’
event in May at Ryde with some of the buses filmed running along Monkton Street
and Park Street prior to the main event at the Isle of Wight Bus Museum. Plenty of action is recorded of the usual
Southern Vectis vehicles and the visiting buses and coaches for you to enjoy
before the highlight of the day when our cameras take a Ryde! on board former
Southern Vectis Bristol K5G, 721 (EDL 657).
This bus has an ECW low-bridge fifty-five-seat body built in 1947 and we
ride on the 1B service to Robin Hill at Downend via Wootton. We have placed a camera in the cab to see the
driver’s view along the picturesque roads of the island and view a number of
buses passing along the way. Another
camera is situated in the lower saloon to get the passengers impression of the
journey to and from the Museum.
The
second part of this DVD programme features the ‘Wightrider’ event that took
place in October. Our filming begins at
Ryde on St Johns Hill, Monkton Street and Park Road before our arrival at the
Bus Museum. Plenty of action is recorded
at the Museum and back on Park Road as the buses arrive and depart. Then it is time for our second ‘classic bus
Ryde’. This time on board the superbly
restored and presented former Jersey Motor Transport 24 (SV 6107 / J 1199), a 1929 Leyland TD1 with a
Leyland L48R body that was originally built as a trolleybus before it was
fitted to the Leyland TD1 chassis. We
travel on the bus to Brading with a camera in the cab to capture the driver’s
view and one in the lower saloon for the experience of the passengers. At Brading we transfer the ‘cab camera’ to
the front lower bulkhead window to view the return journey to the Museum from
‘over the bonnet’ as well as from the lower saloon – a journey that you will
thoroughly enjoy! Back at the Museum we
record the action of the buses and coaches to finish off our two visits to the
excellent Isle of Wight Bus Museum in 2025.
