The London Bus Museum
have introduced a number of ‘Heritage Day’ events when they bring some of the
buses from the Brooklands Museum to operate in service in London on bus routes
for the general public and enthusiasts to enjoy. The subject of this independent transport videos
DVD programme is the ‘Route 38 Heritage Day’ that took place on Saturday 14th
March 2026. The 38 runs from Clapton
Pond to Victoria Station.
A superb
selection of former London Transport buses are seen in service along the 38
route that includes ones from the Museum, some privately owned as well as the
contemporary vehicles on the route in the shape of the New Routemaster ‘LT’
class. You will see preserved STL, RT,
RTL, RTW, RM, RML and even a Leyland Titan (T class) bus in service on the
38! The star of our programme is RM2208
(CUV 208C), a 1965 AEC Routemaster with a Park Royal H64R body owned by Adam
Conner. We have put a camera on the
front bulkhead window for the front lower saloon passengers’ view of the route
together with another camera, also in the lower saloon to add atmosphere to the
journey.
Our journey begins as we enter
west London with views of RM1 (SLT 56) following RM2208. We make our way to Clapton Pond for the start
of our journey to Victoria Station.
Plenty of action is recorded along the way as we reach Victoria. Here we leave RM2208 to film the current
scene and even more Routemasters beginning their journey along the 38. Our cameras then join RM1 (SLT 56), the first
Routemaster built in 1954 with a London Transport/Park Royal body for a ride to
Hackney Central. It is here that we pick
up RM2208 again for a ride to Upper Street, Islington to record the action of
the current scene interspersed with the preserved buses on the 38. We join RM2208 again for another ride to
Clapton Pond with filming on the busy Lower Clapton Road featuring RTs and RMs! Our final scenes are of RML2401 (JJD 401D) as
our day out ‘riding the 38’ comes to a close.
We would like to thank Adam for letting us film from his superbly
restored RM2208. We hope you enjoy our
programme as much as we did making it for you.
