We welcome you to our
visit to join us on the Quorn & Woodhouse Bus & Train Spectacular that
took place in May 2022. The event is
organised by the Leicester Transport Heritage Trust in partnership with the
Great Central Railway at their Quorn railway station in Leicestershire.
This DVD programme majors on the buses, but
we do have a few shots of their steam locomotives for good measure! The event showcases a tremendous variety of
buses and coaches. You will see buses
with chassis built by AEC, Bedford, BMMO, Bristol, DAF, Daimler, Dennis, Guy, Leyland,
Scania and Volvo. A whole host of
bodybuilders includes, Alexander, Alexander (Belfast), Carlyle, Duple, East
Lancs, ECW, Harrington, Leyland, Marshall, Massey, MCW, Northern Counties, Park
Royal, Plaxton, Weymann, Willowbrook, Wright and Yeates. Some of the bus companies featured are Burton
Corporation, Browns Blue, Delaine, Leicester City Transport, Confidence,
Midland Red, Trent, Midland Fox, Badgerline, United Counties, North Western,
Western National, Devon General, Red & White, Merseyside PTE and Western
Welsh to name but a few!
At the time of
editing this programme in early 2026 it is sad to say that one of the attending
coaches is OAX 9F the superbly restored former Red & White ECW-bodied
Bristol RELH6L that was lost in a tragic fire in 2024. Our filming begins in
the early morning as some of the buses are seen travelling along Woodhouse Road
in Quorn heading towards the railway station.
We film a whole host of the bus and coach arrivals at the station and
see them taking up their places for inspection by enthusiasts and the general
public. A good deal of action is filmed
at the station during a very busy day.
For your further enjoyment we take four rides out on the popular Heritage
Bus Routes of which there were six available for people to enjoy. Our first is on board KLB 596, a former
London Transport AEC Regent 3RT with a Weymann body in the livery of Browns
Blue of Leicestershire. We ride on route
70 to Loughborough Central and Midland railway stations in the lower saloon and
return to Quorn on the upper deck. Our second ride out is on former Burton
Corporation 16 (FA 9716), a 1950 Guy Arab III with a 1960 Massey H61R body on
route 75 to Loughborough town centre and back to Quorn. We have put a camera in the cab for the
driver’s eye view and one in the lower saloon for the passengers’
experience. The third ride of the day is
on ‘The Delaine’ 50 (RCT 3), a 1960 Leyland Titan PD3/1 with a W S Yeates H74RD
body, one of only two double-decker bodies built by Yeates. We travel on Route 75 to Loughborough town centre
and return to Quorn station. Our final
ride of the day is another ‘cab ride’, this time on another Burton Corporation
bus! This time it is 87 (TFA 987), a
1963 Daimler CCG5 with a Massey H61R body.
We travel on the 70 service again to the two railway stations with a
camera in the lower saloon to complete the experience. With further filming at Quorn we see the
buses and coaches leaving after a most enjoyable day.
